Q&A: Dog walking tips for a 14 year old?

Question by Liz: Dog walking tips for a 14 year old?
I am planning on doing a dog walking bussiness this summer. I need some tips on it. How do I get good advertising (for free). What should the bussiness name be?

Should I find a bussiness partner? I have 3 sisters to pick from for a bussiness partner ages 15,10,8. The older they are the more they charge…. What qualifications should I look for?

How much should I charge for dog walking per dog? What supplys do I need? Any other tips you can think of?
Thanks!

Best answer:

Answer by RaysinGyrl
You’re opening a business and you want us to write your business plan? I don’t think so.. that’s called consulting… and there’s money to be made there.

Google your questions… they won’t charge.

I would love a pet. I adore dogs but my partner and I work full time. It seems unrealistic to think of owning a dog – and I am allergic to cats. Does anyone have a tip on a good pet, or even a breed of dog that may suit?

How to socialize my dog with other dogs?

258397708 cf1fce54a1 m How to socialize my dog with other dogs?
by kev/null

Question by emillielyy: How to socialize my dog with other dogs?
I have a male maltese mixed, 1 1/2 years old at home and recently adopted a new dog, a 3 years old male shih tzu. The problem is, the shih tzu basically does not get along with all dogs, not just my current maltese mixed. He’ll growl whenever a dog comes near him and even attempt to attack and bite other dogs. Since he is a rescued dog, I do not have any information of his past. He marks very often though I’ve tried to correct him many times.

How do teach him to be calmed and submissive when he’s around with other dogs?

Best answer:

Answer by Wolfie Wifie
Whenever other dogs are about, give the shih tzu treats and praise to show that dogs are good things.

How do I stop a dog fight in the dog park?

by marymactavish

Question by Lee C: How do I stop a dog fight in the dog park?
One of my friend’s dogs got attacked in the park but now I’m kind of scared that will happen to my dog. My dog is a 2 year old lab if he gets into a fight with another dog in the dog park how can I stop it? Cause you know how the dogs aren’t on leashes they just run around. How would I stop a dog fight?
If I did use pepper spray do I spray it at the dogs or where?

Best answer:

Answer by ♥PomMom♥
Never come between fighting dogs – you could end up severely injured. Carry pepper spray with you. If you have a cell phone, bring that, too, call the police if that should happen.

ADD:
Yes, you’d spray it at the offending dog(s).

What is the best thing for our pet(dog), while we go on a vacation for 30 days?

491769889 06b4ff56dd m What is the best thing for our pet(dog), while we go on a vacation for 30 days?
by hey skinny

Question by aravul: What is the best thing for our pet(dog), while we go on a vacation for 30 days?
We have a pet dog(9 months old shih tzu), and we will be leaving on a trip for 30 days. Is it ok to take our pet to other country(India) with us or is it better to leave our littile darling in a pet hostel. It’s very difficult for us to leave her alone(she is very much attached to us as we are to her.We are worried that she would miss us and stop eating or get ill health due to the separation anxiety if we checked her into a pet hostel for 30 days), but we are more concerned about her health and safety.
During october-november time that we would be in India the weather is not hot or humid.we are planning to keep her in our house premises along with us.Any one can tell us if is it ok to take our pet to India from USA. If we take her with us we are planning to take her in the cabin. Is it ok for her if she stay’s 30 days there in India???
We don’t know what we can do with her when we are gone, What solution is best for her?

Best answer:

Answer by J Somethingorother
Since the dog must clear customs, I would recommend checking their web sight on rules for animals. She may need certain shots or to be quarantined upon returning. Likewise you need to find out what India requires on their side…such as proof of vaccinations, etc.

Q&A: Training tips for a staffy dog?

3157333481 71f11ae52b m Q&A: Training tips for a staffy dog?
by gadgetdude

Question by : Training tips for a staffy dog?
I’m buying a staffy pup and want to make sure they are used to other dogs, so they don’t react aggressively to them. I know staffs aren’t naturally aggressive with humans but they see other dogs as a challenge because they were originally bred for dog fights. Any advice for training my pup to become comfortable with other dogs and tips for overall good behaviour? Thanks!

Best answer:

Answer by debbie
As with any dog.
Your dog must know you are pack leader and are in full control.
Socialising your dog with other dogs is very important, from a young age, once fully vaccinated.

Join a training class for puppies.

I am wondering if it is time to put down our dog, advice?

3451427711 34b00f3324 m I am wondering if it is time to put down our dog, advice?
by admiller

Question by : I am wondering if it is time to put down our dog, advice?
First off, I am 17 years old, my parents are divorced and I spend the weekends with my dad at his house. My dad has 2 dogs at his house, the older one is a brown lab and is about 13-14 years old and has been in the family since before my parents were divorced. My 2 siblings are in graduate school far from home, so it is essentially my dad and I to take care of the dogs.

Like I said, our brown lab is about 13-14 years old and my dad and I are trying to decide when the best time to euthanize her would be. A little information about the dog and her living conditions:
The house is a small farmhouse with hundreds of acres of surrounding land.
When she was about 10 years old she tore her ACL in her back leg in the snow/ice running downhill. We decided to have surgery to put in a little metal rod in her leg – the normal surgery for torn ACLs in dogs. She did pretty well after that and still went on long nature walks daily, then a year or two later she tears the ACL in her other back leg. Although my dad often said that if she tore he other ACL we’d put her down, I don’t think he thought it would happen so soon if at all, and we decided to get the surgery again. After the second surgery, she did okay for a while, but in the past 10 months her hind quarters had slowly been getting worse and worse – mostly due to arthritis and old age we think, but the ACLs surely didn’t help. Recently she hasn’t been able to get up by herself, which isn’t a big deal, we just help her up and she would usually be okay after that, but now she has been having more and more trouble walking and we have to help her more often than not. She has been sh*tting in the house which is something we have sort of gotten used to and we clean up with a few tissues because her sh*t has been fairly hard. Her hind quarters have lost a lot of muscle as well. She still makes it out the door to pee though. She is on pain medication – it used to be once daily but i think lately my dad has been giving it to her morning and night but i am not positive on that… either way it is still less than the limit our vet set. She is also taking some pills with lots of vitamins and other good things to help with the arthritis. Oh and few a couple years now we’ve been feeding her some special order arthritis kibble from the vet.

Now I know that all that might sound pretty bad, but what makes the decision so hard is that once she is sitting/lying down she is still super happy and she seems to be able to see and hear very well. Hell, we mention her name and she perks her ears up and looks at us. She knows what is going on around her and she is still as friendly as ever with our other dog. She loves food like always. She loves being pet by anybody and is still damn nicest dog you’ll ever meet.

On the other hand we have to bring the water bowl to her sometimes, and sometimes she wont be able to get up and get to the water during the day when nobody is home. And lately I haven’t seen her chew on any toys or anything, which is something she has always loved like any other dog.

Other than her hindquarters and arthritis she is very healthy.

My dad is thinking that it is time to put her down within a week or two, and I just can’t bear to lose her so damn soon, she just seems so happy and alert and I think she still has that “spark” in her eyes. But even I am starting to wonder about her quality of living. I just don’t know. I don’t know what to do about our dog and I don’t know how to express what I think about her to my dad. I’ve lost a dog before when I was about 10, the dog died of internal bleeding at 2 years old and it was really tough for my dad and I.

I have known this dog for as long as I can remember, my earliest memory is of getting this dog when she was a puppy. I just can’t bear to let her go when I have such conflicted feelings about her quality of living.

I really appreciate anybody who took the time to read all this and I can’t thank you enough for any advice in such a tough time for my Dad and I.

Obviously this is time sensitive so any advice would be better sooner rather than later.
Thank you.
I will be spending all my time at my dad’s house to be with her until she goes. It will also be good for me to see what things are like during the week, might help me decide what to do.
@”Jesus” concerning my past dog that had died, she was originally diagnosed with pneumonia and we left her at the vet overnight for treatment but in the early morning the vets realized it was internal bleeding and they performed emergency surgery but by that time it was too late. We think she might have gotten kicked by an animal, most likely a deer while she was chasing them like she always did. But there wasn’t any cuts or anything obviously so we didn’t know.
sorry, apparently “Jesus” removed his “answer”. More of a question than an answer…

Best answer:

Answer by !There is no cure for ignorance!call a vet!
I am sorry to hear about dog ,the question is does she have a good quality of life the answer is yes and no .

Question by : How bad is dog poop and pee on carpets for babies who are starting to crawl?
Ok so i have a 6 month old baby girl and she seems likes shes wants to start crawling. I spend most of the time at my boyfriends house. I am really scared about dogs and cats being around her. The carpet floor is VERY dirty!!!!!!!!!!! theres pee everywhere, stain and dry up on the floor, and the dogs poop inside when nobody is awake in the morning to take them out. Or when theres nobody home. They loose a lot of hair and like to get into everything. Im really scared to let my baby crawl in that carpet its old and just in really bad shape, and the animals are making it worst. I try to keep it clean but there only so much i can do. icon sad Q&A: How bad is dog poop and pee on carpets for babies who are starting to crawl?
3DOGS and 3CATS
( its my mother in laws house..my boyfriend leaves with her, and my boyfriend tries to talk to his mom about it but it seems like his mom is used of it! and shes the one that doesn’t do much about it). icon sad Q&A: How bad is dog poop and pee on carpets for babies who are starting to crawl? my baby means the world to me i don’t want her to get sick:( and one more thing, the worst animal they have right know is a 14 yr old big black dog, and shes having problems. there’s been a couple of times where shes pee out of no where on the carpet and its really discusting and stinky and leaves a big stain:(

Best answer:

Answer by A
Don’t let her crawl on it, it sounds dreadful and unhygenic! Could get her and others very ill. I suggest getting those dogs trained or outdoor kennels so they won’t poop during the night inside as they won’t be inside.. or getting rid of them. =/

Question by northtop_blackbird: How can I train my dachshund to become a pet dog?
A pet dog is obedient to his or her owner. Just like those dogs you see on tv that is well trained and other stuff.

Best answer:

Answer by Fae Goddess
try enrolling him & yourself in an obedience class in your area, you can look up dog training in the phonebook & should find something there or go to AKC.com they have links to breeders and such in all areas & you should be able to locate one that way…..dogs have to be trained to be obedient unfortunatly they usually just dont do it on thier own

Why is my dog too much shy or submissive with other dogs?

4494019828 08db3ed85d m Why is my dog too much shy or submissive with other dogs?
by M Glasgow

Question by BigTree: Why is my dog too much shy or submissive with other dogs?
My german sherperd dog is already 10 months old. She is still very shy with other dogs. Even a very small size dog can chase her. If other dogs approach her aggresively, she submited immediately. I would like her to play with other dogs happily with confidence. Most dogs she met in off-leash park were very nice(not as aggressive as she thought). Please give me some tips on how to train her to be confident like a gsd should be.

Best answer:

Answer by shippo2wolf
hmm, try to get her a play mate about her size. or get a friends dog. it is ok for your dog to be shy, just not with every dog. the best option is either you go out and play with her yourself, or get another dog her age.

What do you think? Answer below!
