How many cats do you think a person can have before people start to question their mental health?
Question by Bluebeard’s Wife: How many cats do you think a person can have before people start to question their mental health?
I think if you have up to 5-6 cats and you live in a large house, that’s ok. I think it’s ok to have even 10 cats, if they are mostly outside cats and you live in a rural area. But what about 10 cats in a small apartment? Or 20 cats? Or 100 cats?

How can I teach my cat tricks?
Question by Vanina G: How can I teach my cat tricks?
I want to teach my cat basic tricks like Sit, Stand, and Come. Today I already tired putting a treat over my cats head and tried saying Stand up but my cat didn’t even pay attention. And I really want my cat to be able to come to me when I call her name. My cat gets easyly distracted so its really hard getting her attention to do some tricks.
Best answer:
Answer by B
Find a treat that your cat really likes and be persistent. Most cats are stubborn/lazy but they can be taught if they’re willing to learn. Just make sure you’re persistent with it. Also, don’t make the training sessions too long or your cat will get bored.

Q&A: What kind of cat is the best for outside? Tips for outside cats?
Question by kendra96: What kind of cat is the best for outside? Tips for outside cats?
I am getting an outside cat/kitten, so what breed of cat will be best outside? And what are some tips on taking care of an outside cat?
Best answer:
Answer by nightmusic
I don’t believe in ‘outside’ cats. I’ve never seen a happy outside cat. I’ve never seen one that wasn’t always trying to get in. They are social affectionate creatures. They don’t like being excluded. And they love warmth and comfort. Please rethink your decision.

Close the cover on the sandbox when your kids are not playing in it, and keep the cat inside when the kids are playing, or if it is an outdoor cat, monitor and keep the cat out of the box when your kids are playing in it.

My cats started peeing outside the box and now pee anywhere in my basement. How can I stop this?
Question by Ashley G: My cats started peeing outside the box and now pee anywhere in my basement. How can I stop this?
I moved in with my mother and her cat, along with my two cats. Things were fine in the beginning but now the cats just pee anywhere they want to in my basement. I have three cat boxes, one for each cat and we clean them everyday. I cleaned them once and immediately after, the cat pooped in the middle of the floor anyway. Its driving us crazy and any advice on how to change their behavior would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Your cats may be ill or perhaps need to be spayed or neutered. Improper elimination is often a symptom of a medical problem. Usually it’s a urinary infection and easily treated. These conditions are PAINFUL. So off to the vet!

What are tips to keeping cat litter from stinking?
Question by Sil: What are tips to keeping cat litter from stinking?
I hate the smell my cat’s litterbox makes. My mom remarks whenever she comes inside the house from work when she’s gone for a few hours, she can smell the stench that is far down the hallway in our room. When I walk into my room I’m always greeted by the stench. What is a good cat litter that odor blocks really well and what are some other tips that keep the catbox from stinking?

My Cat Tips Over Her Food Bowl?
Question by Bookworm: My Cat Tips Over Her Food Bowl?
My cat scratches around her food bowl (I know why, this is not the question) and we never really paid attention to it. Lately, the past three days or so, she has taken to scratching right in front of it, then catching her claw under it and tipping it over. Luckily it is dry food so it isn’t terrible to clean up, but it is still extremely annoying. Why has she suddenly decided to start tipping it over?
Also, my mom thinks she puts her foot right in the bowl, and that she does it on purpose.

Cat Breeding Tips In About 10 Years Later?
Question by SimKitties: Cat Breeding Tips In About 10 Years Later?
I plan on being a cat breeder when I’m older…
Can you give me some tips?
I know how long it takes for them to give birth,
and I need some safety tips and how to take care of the mother and the cat’s latter kitten(s).
Thanks!
PS: I meant later, not litter!
Best answer:
Answer by Ruby
Hint: A cat’s kittens are part of a LITTER- not a latter.
• Reputable cat breeders only breed purebred cats.
• Breeding stock should first be titled in the show ring. Titles prove that you care about your breed and care about improving it by showing and breeding individuals that fit a breed standard.
• All breeding stock should be health tested for problems common to the breed, such as PKD, PRA and HCM.
• Cats are pregnant for 63-69 days.
• Kittens remain with the breeder until 10-12 weeks old.
I’ve included some reading material below. Have fun!

Can someone give me cat training tips?
Question by Lu: Can someone give me cat training tips?
I have a cat, Tigger, who likes to attack my little sister who’s almost 2. I need to train him not too claw/bite her in a short space of time. Any tips? I know that cats hate citrus, and I don’t want him declawed.
Best answer:
Answer by Tezykitty
To discipline your cat, have a spray bottle handy or a small water gun filled with room temperature water. When you find the mischievous little feline attacking the toddler, spray it with the water. Do not drench the kitty, or burn the kitty, or freeze the kitty. Just room temperature water. This method also works if your cat is knocking things off counters,or any other mischievous thing.

Q&A: Is it wise to start walking a cat? Any tips on how to make it work?
Question by jessicalab01: Is it wise to start walking a cat? Any tips on how to make it work?
Apparently my cat is depressed. I know, I know, stop anthropomorphizing him. But he is peeing outside the litterbox, he’s older and notoriously stubborn. I’ve read that introducing a new environment can help them get into better spirits (and stop peeing). Does anyone have any positive or negative stories to share and any helpful tips??
Thanks!!
Some responses: he doesn’t have a urinary tract infection, and he has a history of peeing. He used ot belong to my sister and after they had to replace the carpets, they asked me to try to “rehabilitate” him. He only pees by doors, both closets and doors to outside. I can get the harness on him but he won’t walk around, but its only been 2 days. I just want to make sure I won’t do irreparable damage to him by introducing him to the outside and having him either get so scared that he gets sick or that he will want to go outside all the time.

I have leash trained a few cats myself, it takes some time but it works very well. My one cat, wanted to go outside but every time he did he would get lost & couldn’t find his way back & I don’t have the heart to keep him locked inside. So I went out and bought a harness & started to leash train him like a dog. It took a while, but it worked. He walks like a dog on a leash now & he loves it! Good luck!

How do Cats and Dogs know which is cat food and which is dog food?
Question by Aneleh: How do Cats and Dogs know which is cat food and which is dog food?
I have 2 cats and three dogs. One night, I ran out of cat food (the dry type) and my cats were hungry. So since I had dog food only and the shops were closed, I gave them dog kibbles. They’re more or less of the same shape and size and are made of the same ingredients – chicken. My cats took a nibble and refused the rest of the bowl, preferring to go hungry than eat dog food. The next day, i got them a fresh pack of made-for-cats kibbles and they immediately dived in and ate up. How come my cats knew what I gave them wasn’t cat food?
I also know of dogs that won’t eat cat food for the long run (not mine though, cos they’re pigs and will eat anything).
It would be good if a pet food manufacturer can answer this question. Is there some special ingredient you put in cat and dog food that makes cats and dogs know which kibbles is who’s? Also, nowadays, dogs are eating fish too – like salmon. You can’t say it’s the ingredient. How come they know the difference?
Best answer:
Answer by jemima
They don’t is the simple answer. I’ve fed my cat dog food and although she wasn’t too keen on it, she ate it. I think it’s to do with the density and bulk of the meat. If I mash the dog food for her she eats it. The dog just eats!!!
